Innomost was established in 2016 with the aim to develop and commercialise valuable ingredients extracted from birch bark. Innomost’s current offering includes betulin, suberin, birch charcoal powder and birch bark powder, which will be used in the cosmetics and personal care industry. First cosmetic brands have already launched products using Innomost’s ingredients. In addition to the market opportunity in cosmetics, especially betulin and suberin have shown potential also in various industrial applications.
In summer 2021, Metsä Spring participated in a financing round together with other private investors and public funding agencies. The objective of the financing round is to set up a pilot plant in Kokkola, Finland (it was started up early 2023), carry out further R&D work as, well as grow Innomost’s customer base. Metsä Group has several mills, which may provide birch bark for Innomost’s production.
